Suicide Prevention
University can be a difficult time for students where they undergo many transitions and challenges. It can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression, inadequacy, confusion and students may not know how to cope with these feelings. Students must step out of their comfort zones, find new relationships and maintain them, take on more rigorous courses, manage time more efficiently – all this making the experience more overwhelming.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students, but it is preventable. If you're having thoughts about hurting yourself, please consider the following:
- Talk to a friend or a family member about how you're feeling and thinking
- Don't be alone if you're having thoughts about hurting yourself
- Suicide is not a solution
- It leaves a huge long-lasting impact on friends and family
- Seek professional help immediately
